Torque wrench extension calculator
A visual torque wrench extension calculator for crowfoot adapters, torque adapters, angles and unit conversions.
Crowfoot torque calculator
Calculate the correct torque wrench setting for a crowfoot extension, including angled installations and common units.
Torque adapter calculator
Torque adapter calculator for dog-bone and inline torque wrench adapters with full 0 to 180 degree support.
Torque unit converter
Convert torque between N·m, kgf·m, kgf·cm, lbf·ft and lbf·in, with meaningful handle-force comparisons.
Correct for the effective lever arm
T_set = T_target × L / (L + E × cos θ)
T_target- Target torque required at the fastener.
T_set- Torque to set or read on the wrench.
L- Effective wrench length: drive centre to the centre of your grip, not the overall wrench length.
E- Extension length: drive centre to the centre of the fastener.
θ- Angle between the extension and wrench centre lines: 0° points forward, 90° is perpendicular and 180° folds back.
A socket extension along the drive axis does not change the lever arm and needs no correction. This formula applies to extensions that lengthen or shorten the effective lever arm, such as crowfoot heads and torque adapters.
At 90°, the extension adds no effective length and no correction is needed. At 0°, the forward extension reduces the required wrench setting; at 180°, the setting increases.
Measure L and E in the same length unit. Check that the corrected setting stays within the wrench range and follow the fastener and wrench manufacturers' instructions.
- 86 N·m target, L = 250 mm, E = 25 mm, θ = 0° → 78.18 N·m wrench setting.
- 100 N·m target, L = 450 mm, E = 60 mm, θ = 0° → 88.24 N·m wrench setting.
